“Now, you said a damaged forest reminds of something tragic, yes?” Sam broke the silence and Louie responded with a short nod.
Sam stood up and asked the two to follow him over a sapling nearby.
“Look at this…”
“Okay… what is this all about?” Louie asked and Sam eyed on the fresh sapling. “Tell me, what is our purpose here?”
Louie glanced back to Sam with a rather confused look but he gave it a thought. What was Sam trying to imply? “Uhhh to plant and restore the forest… or whatever’s left of it… yes?”
Sam sat up and kept his smile, “Yes! And well, in your case, don’t you want that? To restore that clearing you have there? It seems as if you’re-“
Just before he could finish, Louie rolled his eyes and cut him off, “Ohhhh boy, not this again,” he stood up and began to walk away, minding his own business. Sam and Tam couldn’t just let it end this way. Unresolved. The poor guy needed some help or advice. “Look, pal, you’re like the… you know, I lost count. You’re like the billionth Pokemon who tried to ‘help’ me with this. I’m gonna have to apologize for being rude with this matter and all but this is MY problem, not yours.” Louie rudely spoke, not looking at their way.
“Well, this is a rescuer’s job but not just that… I like helping others and don’t you want to talk this out? To have some closure? ‘Cause it really seems as if you don’t want to deal with this and you’re not putting effo-“
“Are you telling me I haven’t done a thing with this at all?” Louie barked.
“Uh no well-“
“HEY! Let me tell you a thing or two. I have been through this shit for years now! You know how long, pal?” with a sly grin, Louie began pining Sam onto a tree nearby.
“15 years! 15 freakin’ years! I’ve tried so many times. SO. MANY. TIMES. Trying to achieve some sort of solution! And you know what? Not every problem has one. All I want right now is to move on from it and so please, stop mak-“
“So you’re giving up?” Tam spoke, at last.
That froze Louie on the spot, his feet glued to the ground, powerless to move at all. For what it seemed to be a minute of silence, he slowly turned to her, “I just know when to stop and accept the fact that none of these are ever going to work.”
“Hey… Don’t let the past define you… What matters the most is now,” Tam spoke once more.
Louie paid no more attention to them. He pulled himself together and paced the other way, “Like I said, this is my problem, not yours. Look, I appreciate the help but I just know how it’ll end. If you don’t mind, I’m gonna go and find Niko.”
With that, Louie left the two, allowing the shadows of the forest to sink him in. Sam, with a gloomy look, glanced up to Tam and said, “I’m sorry I couldn’t help even just a little. Maybe some other time…”
After a few minutes of searching, Louie was able to find Niko at a clearing nearby, still planting some seeds and saplings together with some other mons. With a gloomy smile, Louie approached his partner and took the seeds from his hands.
“You go home now. I’ll take care of the rest.”
“Oh, hey, Louie! Uhh you’re back’s feeling better now?”
“Uhh yeah… yeah…” Louie replied as he began digging up some holes, not minding the dirt and mud on his paws.
Niko examined Louie. He knew him well enough to notice his gloomy aura, “Hey… something wrong?”
Louie immediately responded him with a smile. A fake one, indeed. “Oh, do I look like I’m having some sort of problem? Of course not! Y-You go home. I’ll take it from here!”
“Are you sure...?”
“If you say so…” with that, Niko left him there to finish the job.“I’m sorry I couldn’t help even just a little. Maybe some other time…”
“Trust me, Sam… You did help. Why on earth would he be planting now? But he’s right. He won’t find any answers or solution from others. He’s gonna have to solve this on his own. Only he can restore that clearing he has…” an orange fella muttered in the shadows with a silly, sly grin, silently watching the lonesome Eevee doing his job.
